Most of us are familiar with the most popular North American foods, such as burgers and fries. But have you ever wondered about traditional European food?

 

Introduction

 

Traditional foods in Europe differ depending on the country. For example, you will find tapas in Spain, while in Italy you’ll find pasta and pizza. However, some traditional foods are shared by many European countries, such as bread and cheese. And of course, no European country isn’t known for its cakes and pastries! Europe is home to 746 million people and 44 countries with distinct cuisines. Here is the list of the quite familiar traditional foods:-

 

  1. Fish and chips are the most famous and delicious dishes in England. In which fish is deep fried and chips ( for American chips are french fries), it also includes gravy with curry sauce and peas.
  2. Paella is a Spanish dish which is a traditional dish in Spain which consist of a large portion of rice, vegetable, seafood, chicken, meat, and green beans. The specialty of paella is made in a pan, and its name is given because it is a pan dish.
  3. Cheese fondue! People who love cheese can love this dish. Switzerland is the birthplace of Cheese fondue and a dreamland for cheese lovers. Traditionally, it is made up of swiss cheese (Emmental and Gruyere layers), which is consumed as a dip with breadsticks or potato chips.
  4. Escargot is a traditional dish in France. Escargot is edile snails (land snails) cooked with garlic, parsley butter, and some other seasonings. They are pretty expensive in France because they are considered a specialty. However, after being so expensive, locals won’t stop eating because it’s very delicious. Snails are also famous in Italy too.
  5. Herring is well known dutch traditional specialty. Mostly is raw herring.  This is deliciously salty fish is beloved all over the world, and for a good reason. Herring is a versatile dish that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways – from grilled to baked to boiled. It is often served as a snack or with pickles and onions.
  6. Goulash is a Hungarian national dish. It consists of a meat stew full of vegetables, flavors, and heavy seasoning of paprika. It is an old dish that was traced back to the 9th century. Goulashish meat is made by cowboys.
  7. Pierogi is a polish dish, a kind of dumpling commonly eaten in eastern Europe. They are made of flour with a stuffing of savory or sweet filling which can be fried or steamed. The filling of pierogi can be anything like chicken, potatoes, cheese, buckwheat, or sauerkraut. It is a very authentic dish in Poland available in every restaurant. It is also known as Pierogarnia.

 

In the end, looking at these traditional foods, it is concluded that, despite some of these foods being pretty unusual, they taste amazing. Something about the flavors makes it hard to say no when someone puts roasted carrots on your plate.
